EIT/FE General Exam Questions
What is the format of the actual Exam? There are no more pencil and paper exams. The FE Exam is entirely computer based and will be offered year-round at Pearson VUE testing centers. You will have 5 hours 20 min to answer 110 questions. The exam will be divided into two sections but with a break in the middle, and whatever time is left over from the first section will carry over to the second. The two sections will cover the same, discipline-specific material. Once you have finished the first section, you will not be able to go back.
Did Exam topics change for computer based testing format?
Please check the NCEES website for updated topics for each exam type for the 2022 computer based exam here: http://ncees.org/
What is the format of the actual Exam? I have been out of school for a long time, which discipline should I choose?
If you are a recent graduate or working engineer who has been out of the classroom for a while, we highly recommend taking the Other Disciplines Exam. This exam covers a broad range of all the engineering topics as opposed to the discipline specific exams (Civil, Mechanical, etc.). Our EBook is specifically designed for you! In order to pass this exam, it is not necessary to study everything, but only a fraction of each subject. Out EBook will show you how.
Does the EBook contain practice questions in addition to theory?
Our EBook offers (5) Practices Exams covering over 330 questions. We do not waste time on theory or obscure problems- which will only confuse you more, but instead, we developed practical questions and ones that are most likely to appear on the actual exam based on the percentages which are published by NCEES. We believe that nothing prepares you better than working through actual exam questions.
What is the pass rate for first time test takers for the Other Disciplines (General) Exam?
According to NCEES, the passing rate for the Other Disciplines exam is 75%.
Will the new computer based exam be more difficult?
No, the FE exam tests your knowledge of basic engineering topics and most problems only require a few steps in order to solve. It is more of a race against the clock than the complexity of the exam which is the challenge. The key is becoming familiar for the FE Handbook which will be your only reference you can use during the exam.
I’ve heard that exam results take 2 months to arrive, is that true?
In the past, yes, it was typical to receive results 8 to 10 weeks after your examination. Fortunately, due to the computer based testing 2021 exam, results will arrive within 7 to 10 days. However, keep in mind that the states have varying guidelines for releasing exam results to examinees. To learn more, contact your state board.
