You should take the exam that you feel most comfortable with... even if you have a degree in mechanical engineering, you can choose to take the Other Disciplines Exam. The Exam discipline doesn't have to match your degree.
In fact, we recommend that Mechanical and Civil Engineers take the Other Disciplines Exam. The “Other Disciplines” option is ideal if you have more of a general engineering education and don't want to spend a lot of time relearning old material.
