Each year, NCEES designates the types of calculators examinees are allowed to use during the FE Exam.
This is necessary in order to ensure the integrity of the exam and it also levels the playing field.
Before we review each approved calculator for 2023, it's very important to purchase one from the approved list and USE IT during your FE Exam preparation.
Some of our students shared horror stories from their experiences. They might have used they favorite calculator from school or work during their study prep, but then purchased one from the approved list right before the exam.
However, not being familiar with its functions caused them to fail the FE Exam.
Sometimes, the functions are totally different and could cause you to waste valuable time during the exam trying to figure it out.
An example would be Y to the X function (y^x) or the Arc sine or cosine.
This is why we tell our students to read about the approved calculators -reviews on Amazon- links provided below-and choose and purchase one to use DURING their studying.
I know, it seems common sense, but sometimes people forgot about how calculators function differently.
You can have an edge over other FE Exam test takers simply by being familiar with your calculator in advance.
2023 Approved Calculator List:
The following calculator models are the only ones acceptable for use during the 2023 exams:
- Casio: All fx-115 and fx-991 models (Any Casio calculator must have “fx-115” or “fx-991” in its model name.
- Hewlett Packard: The HP 33s and HP 35s models, but no others
- Texas Instruments: All TI-30X and TI-36X models (Any Texas Instruments calculator must have “TI-30X” or “TI-36X” in its model name.)
